Reformed Church Pfäffikon
There must have been a church there as early as the 7th century. It was dedicated to Saint Benignus. The Carolingian church at the time - it was first mentioned in documents in 811 - was replaced by a Romanesque church in the 12th century, and then from 1484 to 1488 it was replaced by a late Gothic building, which, together with the churches of Elgg, Meilen and Turbenthal, was the most important building from this period in the Zurich region!
The Reformation (1524) soon followed, and many things were painted over, removed or destroyed. Pastor Wagner was the first Reformed preacher, and it was the famous Pastor Hirzel who led the angry Pfäffikon residents to Zurich in 1839 in the so-called "ostrich trade", where the liberal government was forced to be deposed.
In 1890, the 52-meter-high church tower was built in place of the "Käsbissenturm".
In 1943/1948, a complete renovation took place with the exposure of the murals (lime secco) and the installation of the vaulted ceiling. Until this renovation, there was an organ in the choir.
