De Moezeköttel (Mauseköttel) is an old, small farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and turned into a small museum. 😊 There is coffee ☕️ and cake 🎂 here.

At the end of the Second World War, many houses in Megchelen were irreparably destroyed during the liberation. After the war, 71 emergency shelters were built from the rubble, almost all of which have since disappeared.

The smallest of these shelters - "De Moezeköttel" - was built using the rubble of the small cottager's farm on the Asbroek, which was already popularly known as "Moezeköttel" at the time. In the tiny house, people had to make do with very little. There was only one bedroom. Nevertheless, a family with three children lived there for years. The emergency shelter was recently restored and furnished in an authentic way.

The housing shortage and the deprivations during the years of reconstruction were the guiding principles for the restoration work. "De Moezeköttel" is currently a well-visited, small open-air museum with a visitor center, a popular resting place for walkers and cyclists.

De Moezeköttel is an emergency shelter that has been converted into a free museum and was built for the homeless after World War II. A wonderful place to stop for a break on a bike ride with plenty of picnic benches. On a trust basis, you can also buy coffee or a small dessert snack and eat food you have brought with you. A small donation is always welcome.

The house is open and furnished with furniture and everyday objects from the post-war period. More information at moezekottel.nl.
