The picturesque landmark of the municipality of Markgrafneusiedl is located at the highest point in the Marchfeld - on the foothills of the Kleiner Wagram. The windmill ruins were built between 1220 and 1240 as a church fortification. As part of the Ostmark's defensive ring, the fortified church was consecrated to Saint Martin.
In 2021, the municipality of Markgrafneusiedl acquired the ruins from the heirs of the deceased previous owner for €2 million. 3 of the 5-hectare property are to be rededicated as building land and the ruins are to become a regional attraction.
Unfortunately, the access to the ruins is currently blocked, so it can only be admired from a distance.
