Probably the most important monk of the Vornbach monastery was Angelus Rumpler, who headed the convent as abbot from 1501 to 1513. As an important representative of early German humanism, he is one of the great Bavarian historians of the dawn of the Renaissance period. Rumpler created two important works on the history of the Vornbach Monastery and on the history of the War of the Bavarian Succession of 1504. Under Abbot Benedikt Hepauer (1624-1645) the current church was built using the Romanesque, raised Gothic surrounding walls and the Gothic choir.
