    The invention and expansion of the railways ushered in a revolution in the entire transport system. In 1867 she also drove over the Brenner for the first time. It was now obvious to use the railway for ore transport from Sterzing. In the course of incipient zinc blinding on Schneeberg daring professionals dared in 1871 to build the world's largest ore-day conveyor system on rails, which from the station in Sterzing through the Ridnaun and Lazzachertal, through the Kaindlstollen to the deepest pits in Seemoos on Schneeberg led. It was over 27 km long. In order to be able to overcome the most varied mountain and valley forms as well as the large height differences (altogether 1,900 m), it consisted of 8 so-called brake mountains or Wasseronnenaufzügen, on which the Erzwagen of the second car with counterweight over steep slopes could be pulled up or braked down , The Bremsberge were connected to each other along the mountain slopes by flat horse-drawn railway tracks.
    On the also 8 horse tracks pulled a horse 6 to 7 ore cars with 1 m3 capacity. At elaborate places along the route, massive ore boxes were erected for interim storage of ores. Thus, only parts of the entire transport system, depending on the season, were put into operation.
    In Vipiteno, the railroad took over the freight and brought it to the smelter in Cilli (now Celje in Yugoslavia) at a relatively low cost, where, at the same time as the construction of the overground conveyor system on Schneeberg, the k.k. Mine management had built a hut for melting the zinc ore from Schneeberg, Klausen and Raibl. The entire underground conveyor system was listed in impressive dry masonry and was in operation from 1874 to 1925, with the exception of the Seemooser Wassertonnenaufzug, on which until 1967 the ore was transported to the material cableway to St. Martin. The abandoned facility is today a unique monument and is clearly visible from Schneeberg to Mareit. A marked nature trail was created on it. The Maierner Bremsberg and the Seemooser Wassertonnenaufzug will be restored to their original form in the coming years.
    The Bremsberge or Wassertonnenaufzüge worked with counter cargo. On the Passeir side, the ore from Seemoos had to be raised to the Kaindlstollen at 2530 m. As a counterweight in the triangular-constructed chassis made of sheet iron, on which the loaded ore hunts were fixed, only water came into question, which in an elaborate open water supply from the dammed Schneeberger Schwarzsee at 2,600 m to the mountain station of the 14-Nothelfer-elevator directed and from there was distributed.
    On Ridnauner side, where the ore wagons had to be braked to valley, water was only used in exceptional cases as a counterweight. As Gegenfrachten all supplies came to the mountain.
