The Saarbrücken town hall was built from 1897 to 1900 in neo-Gothic style by the architect Georg J. von Hauberrisser.

Von Hauberrisser also designed the town halls in Munich and Wiesbaden. The focal point is the 54-meter-high tower, from which a carillon sounds every day at 3.15 p.m. and 7.19 p.m.

The originally preserved front is adorned with sandstone figures depicting the old craft stalls. There you can find a miner, a smelter, a farmer, a beer brewer, a merchant and a tanner.

The figure of St. George with the dragon is not easy to interpret - it is probably a symbol of the fight against evil. The ballroom in the town hall is worth seeing. Around 1000 weddings take place here in festively decorated surroundings.

Today's "new" town hall was designed and built as the town hall of the city of St. Johann in the years 1897 to 1900 by the well-known architect Georg Hauberrisser in late Gothic form.
The most striking component of the town hall is the 54 m high so-called "Beffroi" (Belfried, a bell tower). During the National Socialist era, extensions were built in Kaltenbachstrasse and Gerberstrasse. Inside the town hall there is an impressive council chamber with wall paintings from around 1900. Due to the acute lack of space in the old town hall after the city became a big city, the entire administration was moved to the new town hall.
Together with the St. John's Church diagonally opposite and the neo-Gothic residential buildings on the town hall square, the ensemble around the town hall gives a coherent picture of bourgeois architecture around 1900. Today the town hall is still the seat of administration and up to 1000 weddings take place in the large council hall every year .
