After its toppling on April 13, 1975, the plan was to preserve cross-sections of the over 300-year-old Schinderhannes Oak for posterity. A huge saw cut through the trunk, which had a circumference of 5 meters, but the next morning some of the cross-sections were missing... Schinderhannes? The rest were taken into the custody of the town of Idstein. One cross-section now hangs in the hallway of the Willi-Mohr Hall, another at the edge of town in the direction of Idstein, and in 1999 the local history and tourism association donated one to the "Zum Schinderhannes" inn in Steinfischbach as a regular's table.
