The sculpture of Princess Birutė in Lauksody is the only one of this important woman in the country's history standing in Northern Lithuania. The organization of the initiators of the monument "Birutičiai" was established in the village in 1926. In the 1930s, after the farmers of the surrounding area organized the construction of a monument to Duke Vytautas, the women of Biruta came up with the idea that a monument was also needed for his mother Biruta. The public activists ordered the cement monument from Žeimelos sculptor Antanas Nesavs, and financed the construction. Birutė's sculpture was unveiled and consecrated in 1931.
Standing at the intersection of Lauksodis streets for almost ninety years, Birutė was restored in 1990 and 2001. The sculpture and its surroundings are supervised by the Žeimelos Eldership.
