The Marian column on Johannesplatz was built after the devastating fire in 1798 on the place where the Johanneskireche previously stood.

The Marian Column was designed by Michael Rasner in 1716 and originally stood on the main square until it was moved to its current location in 1861. The column with an Ionic capital is made of red marble, above which rises a figure of Maria Immaculata on a globe with a snake.
