The Old Watermill in Staats was first documented in 1335, when Duke Otto of Brunswick sold dues from the village and the mill in Staz, as well as from the mill in Borviz, to the Neuendorf Monastery. It then became the property of the Neuendorf Monastery. For centuries, it served as a grain mill and was in commercial operation until 1992. Some of the mill's original structures have been preserved, making it a significant testament to regional history. Although the mill is no longer operated commercially, it remains an important part of Staats's cultural heritage.
