        We were there and we loved it. We step into the really big hall and get a great view over Davos and over the snow-capped mountains. We sit down and order cappuccino and delicious cakes.

        Hans Castorp, the main character in Thomas Mann's novel "The Magic Mountain", is actually perfectly healthy. He visits his cousin in a Davos sanatorium, who is kept in Davos by the doctors to be on the safe side because of signs of tuberculosis. Castorp - fascinated by life in the sanatorium - he completely redefined the image of the sick person for himself. The disease ennobles people, he says. Healthy people, on the other hand, are just simple-minded. Life in the sanatorium becomes the measure of all things for Castorp...

                  The Berghotel Schatzalp (today's name), built as a sanatorium in Art Nouveau style but made of reinforced concrete, was constructed between 1898 and 1900 by Zurich architects Otto Pfleghard and Max Haefeli. It served as the model for the Berghof International Sanatorium in Thomas Mann's novel "The Magic Mountain."
                  Since 1954, the Schatzalp has been operated as a hotel, although the nostalgic building has been preserved. 41 sources are related to the Berghotel Schatzalp.

                    Accessed by a funicular railway. There is also a kind of road with beautiful serpentines, which was probably built through the forest to build the hotel and can now be used as a ski slope or toboggan run in winter.
