Artur Edler von Mecenseffy, born in Vienna in 1865, led the 6th Division with the rank of Feldmarschalleutnant during the Battle of Mount Ortigara in June 1917 until his death on 6 October 1917, following the explosion of a grenade fired from Cima della Caldiera while driving along Kaiser Karl Straße. HE was initially buried on the Asiago plateau, but his body was subsequently exhumed and, at the disposal of the Chief of Staff Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf, was buried in the family crypt in Vienna.
