"It is a late Gothic building with three floors, a stair tower, a clock and three towers. It was built from 1528 to 1531. In 1643 a late Mannerist platform with three columns was built on the front. There are stairs on both sides. At the entrance to the Two sandstone lions stand on the landing and the facade is decorated with the relief stones Kiek in de Pot and Morgenster, which remind of the threatening reinforcements of the Duke of Gelre on the other side of the IJssel.The building is crooked, it protrudes about 80 cm the Lot. That is why it was put on new foundations in the 1990s."

When Deventer grew into one of the most important Hanseatic cities on the IJssel, it was necessary to monitor dimensions. In 1528, De Waag was built as a weighing house for measuring and weighing all these trade products.

The Waag is a late Gothic building with three floors, a stair tower, a clock and three pointed turrets. The building is crooked, it is approximately 80 cm out of plumb.

For centuries, a copper cauldron from 1434 hung on the facade in which counterfeiters were boiled alive in oil. The holes that can be seen in the cauldron were shot in 1813 by trigger-happy soldiers of the occupying Napoleonic garrison. A recent condition check showed that it was no longer responsible to leave the copper boiler hanging outside. Since 2017, the boiler has therefore been moved to the vestibule of the weighing house and can be viewed there without obligation.
