The city hall of the city of Kempten (Allgäu) is a medieval, listed building, which was built in 1474. It replaced a half-timbered house from 1368, which initially served as a granary and was from 1382 at least partially used as city hall for the city council and as a courthouse and financial house. Today, the city council, the event office, as well as the mayor and the mayor of Kempten, have their seat in the building. In front of the town hall stands the town hall fountain from the 17th century. The current facade of the town hall dates from the 1930s.

Despite the centuries-long coexistence of the free imperial city of Kempten and the royal abbey of Kempten, which had its own settlement of the same name and town status at the gates of the imperial city, only the imperial city had a town hall.

I live in Kempten, and the square, with its several side streets, is the prettiest part of Kempten. Unfortunately, too many of the old buildings have been demolished, and you can see information signs about the former buildings on the new buildings. There isn't a beautiful old town here. You can find those in places like Memmingen, Wangen, Isny, and a smaller version in Immenstadt. Tastes differ, and if you're not from the area, it's easier to eat at Rathausplatz. I prefer other pubs that are cooler or better.
