        In 1904, the village of Seewalde was renamed "Seewalde" from "Erbpachtstelle Drosedow II," an already operating steam brickworks. After various (hereditary) tenants tried their luck on the site and gradually rebuilt the old buildings, deaconesses and a children's home moved in in the 1930s. In 1940, the upper floors of the "manor house" burned down, the deaconesses left the village, and the Lauenstein Society from Jena moved in in 1941.

        Even during the war and postwar years, the society was able to continue operating under difficult conditions – essentially as a children's home for children threatened by bombing in big city areas. In 1949, the GDR expropriated and closed the building. Subsequently, Seewalde initially served as an outpost of the Ückermünde Psychiatric Clinic, then a boarding school was established.           The "Heil- und Erziehungsinstitut für Seelenbedehnte Kinder Lauenstein e.V." (Healing and Educational Institute for Children in Need of Spiritual Care, Lauenstein) was founded in 1924 by enterprising individuals from the young anthroposophical community as the first (anthroposophical) curative education institution on the so-called Lauenstein in Jena. Revived by long-standing members from East and West Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the association began efforts to resume social work in Seewalde, this time conceptually with the goal of an inclusive village project (also) for adults in need of assistance.

          This association, founded in 1924, is currently a shareholder in the non-profit "Dorf Seewalde GmbH," the current provider of social and educational work in the village, which in recent years has developed the Waldorf kindergarten, the Waldorf school, and various other initiatives and ventures beyond residential and workshop care.
