Villers-sur-mer, entry point to the Greenwich Meridian in continental Europe, has the particularity of being the only French coastal resort located on this Meridian.
Renovated in 2016, the meridian is marked by a line on the rounded projection of the central dike just after the casino and by luminous ground markings in the evening.
A simple little tip for locating Villers-sur-mer on any map of the world: the town is located at the exact intersection of the zero meridian and the French coast.
A room at the Paléospace l'Odyssée is dedicated to the Greenwich Meridian. It offers an intimate scenography highlighting the very beautiful marine objects from the Paris Observatory and the museum's own collections.

The importance of the Prime Meridian, especially for the navigation of ships based on the precise determination of longitude, was an epochal milestone in the history of seafaring. The system was developed in Greenwich, an English town near London, in the second half of the 19th century, hence the name "Greenwich Line." At this point, in Villers-sur-Mer (Normandy), France, it meets the European mainland.

The point on the British coast where the Prime Meridian, which encircles the globe, leaves England and crosses the English Channel is also marked by a highlight in the komoot system.
