Anyone entering the historic market square in Rinteln for the first time will be amazed: the closed ensemble of restored half-timbered houses has been preserved in its original form since the 13th century. The center of the former university town doesn't look like a museum at all, but is as lively as it was back then.
Locals and visitors fill the square, settle down in the numerous cafés, bistros and restaurants and enjoy the atmosphere between the magnificent buildings of the Weser Renaissance.
Everyone who visits Rinteln quickly notices: people like living here!
The city's landmark, visible from afar, is the tower of St. Nikolai. The three-aisled hall church, a mighty building, was first mentioned in 1238. Yesterday, as today, it is the center of the lively city and welcomes you from afar.
