Some of these are large karst springs. Together they discharge 3,000 to 9,000 litres of water per second (5,000 l/s on average), making them the strongest spring area in Germany. The strongest discharge ever measured was 43,700 l/s. From the time the surface water seeps into the crevices on the Paderborn plateau, it takes two to four days for it to reach the springs in Paderborn (200 to 400 m/h).

Warme Pader
The Warme Pader, which was previously also called the "Wäschepader", has a constant temperature of around 15°C, unlike the other Pader springs. Its source is located in a park on the Paderberg, along with the source of the Dammpader and Börnepader. It is the westernmost of the three springs. The spring water of the Warm Pader is always clear. On particularly cold, frosty days, it steams compared to the colder air. The spring basin used to be the preferred place for washerwomen because of the higher temperature of the water.
