The proposed route, almost exclusively on a cycle path (inaugurated in 2010), begins near the Castellanza (VA) railway station. For now it ends in Castiglione Olona, but an ambitious project envisages its continuation in the future up to Mendrisio, always alongside the former railway tracks.
The first two km of the ride are on a local road, in Fagnano Olona, after passing a dangerous intersection, the actual cycle path begins. After a further 4 km you must take the wooden bridge on the right (pay attention to the steps), another 200 m. and you reach the tracks of the aforementioned former Valmorea railway. From here the track almost always runs alongside the tracks up to Castiglione Olona (13 km): objectively it is the part of the route that deserves to be visited.
Along the ride you pass through areas now of industrial archaeology, areas of natural relief in the bends produced by the river, as well as absolutely relevant sites from a historical and cultural point of view such as the Torba Monastery (owned by the FAI) or the medieval historic center of Castiglione Olona, reachable at the end of the route with a short detour (on a busy road) or from the medieval bridge, on the right, after the only tunnel on the route (the asphalt climb is short and can be done on foot).
