The bascule bridge is functional, unfortunately the Großefehn Canal is only partially navigable because the fixed bridge of the B 72 in MitteGroßefehn and then up to the fixed bridges in OstGroßefehn prevent passage.

In many places in the Fehnland you can see the bascule bridges, rarely so directly next to a lock. Unfortunately today everything just to look at. Nothing can move here any more, because in the 1970s many of the wooden bridges were not preserved and new ones were built from the miracle material concrete. Otherwise you could sail from here to America. This is what the host of the Heusken lock next to the lock and bridge reports. The name suggests that the lock keeper used to live here - today you can spend your holidays here. From here, the Großefehn Canal stretches a little further to the west and a whopping 10km more or less dead straight to the east. Due to the traffic routing, cyclists can get to almost any point in the Fehnland fairly quickly from here.
