      The Abbazia San Galgano is the ruins of a former abbey about 35 km southwest of Siena on the territory of the municipality of Chiusdino in Tuscany in Italy. A very nice place with many impressions.

            San Galgano is a very well-kept, but sleepy ruin. The entrance fee is five euros. A small footpath takes you up the hill to the original monastery. The sword that gave rise to the Arthurian legend is supposedly on display inside the former abbey.
            If you drive past here, you should plan a visit and take in the whole thing.

              the hermitage on the hill right next door is called Montesiepi. There is an arm/hand relic there from at least the time of San Galgano.
              A few kilometers away is Chiusdino, a medieval town that is absolutely worth seeing and the birthplace of Saint San Galgano. The entrance fee also includes a visit to the museum there.

This majestic 13th-century church, missing its roof, is a true icon of the region, nestled in a magnificent natural setting featuring all the iconic features for which Tuscany is world-famous: rolling hills, vineyards, and rows of cypress trees. In this bucolic landscape, part of the municipality of Chiusdino, in the province of Siena, stands the truly unusual silhouette of the Abbey of San Galgano. Only the walls and apse remain of the old church, a silhouette as ghostly as it is fascinating, which is precisely why, despite its somewhat isolated location, it attracts thousands of tourists each year.
