Bollingerfähr Lock in Heede on the Dortmund-Ems Canal!

This impressive lock system features two chambers and a weir. The old lock chamber, built in 1896, is 163 m long and 10 m wide. The modern lock chamber, completed in 1954, is even 2 m longer and 2 m wider. Both chambers allow a lifting height of 2.20 m.

How to get to the lock:

Leave Heede via Dörpener Straße and turn left onto Hunfelde Straße before the Ems Bridge. Follow Bollingerfähr Straße until you reach the locks. If you cross the bridge over the locks and keep right after the row of houses, you will reach the Heede Ems Weir.

The Bollingerfuhr lock is a lock on the Dortmund-Ems Canal near the Ems Bridge near Dörpen and belongs to the municipality of Heede.

The first lock chamber, a mighty 163 meters long and 10 meters wide, was built in 1896 using an embankment method and went into operation with the completion of the Dortmund-Ems Canal in 1899. The lock was closed with two mortise gates.

Then in 1954 came the new sheet piling lock. She 2 meters longer and wider. Instead of the miter gates, two sliding gates now close the lock. A lifting bridge leads over the Unterhaupt to the buildings at the old chamber. The lock is operated by the Meppen Waterways and Shipping Office at fixed times.

If you cross the lock, you get to an Ems island with a few houses. But you have to leave the island in the same way.
