The swing bridge (also called "chain bridge") is a unique object of technical heritage and historical value. The hand-turned metal bridge over the Castle Canal was built in 1855. It is the only mechanism of its kind in Lithuania. The bridge is made of riveted iron, is decorated with chains and was therefore called the "Chain Bridge" until World War II. It has a manual rotating mechanism. Two people turn the bridge so that it is possible to enter the former fossa (defensive moat) of Klaipėda Castle via the waterway below. The property is marked as a maritime heritage. This mark is used to identify objects related to the maritime heritage, e.g. buildings and locations of former buildings, quays, paths, ships, etc. In 2010, the 2.4 m high bronze sculpture "The Black Ghost" was ceremoniously unveiled on it. It was created by Caspar Hennenberg based on motifs from the legend “The Black Man from Memel”, written at the end of the 19th century.
