The Red House, or Fabbrica delle Cateratte, was built in 1765 by the Jesuit mathematician Leonardo Ximenes, to control the flow of water in and out between the swamp and the sea.
The structure now houses the Visitor Center of the Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve and serves as a starting point for excursions by boat and for the various activities proposed.
Here there is also the Interactive Multimedia Museum created by the agency for scientific dissemination Mizar and designed by the well-known physicist Paco Lanciano.
