The last community oven in Großthiemig, renovated in 1997, oven repaired in 2015. In 1950 there were still 6 such bakehouses. Run by a baking cooperative with a chairman and an assistant (called a sage). Anyone who wanted to bake reported to the wise man. He was always active for a year and switched to the fair. Even today, the oven is heated and cakes are baked on certain festivals. Years ago we were lucky that a resident wanted to show us the little house, he just had to get the key quickly. We were then allowed to look around in there, everything was explained, we just haven't made it to the cake yet.

In 1975, of the 6 bakeries, only the bakery on the main street remained. All the others fell into disrepair and were demolished. The last one was also in a very bad state, a ruin.
It is thanks to the mayor of Großthiemig that the last bakery was preserved. He stopped the decay and initial repairs were carried out on the roof and masonry so that baking could take place again.
