In the first decades of the 20th century, the situation of abandonment of the swamp dam was precarious, after 30 years without opening El Ladrón.
The opening mechanism of the irrigation gate was broken and had leaks. For the placement of a new closing mechanism, it was decided to build the tower that we know today.
From this place the irrigation gate is opened and the sludge is also diverted towards El Ladrón.
