Paula Modersohn-Becker was the most important painter of the first generation of artists in Worpswede. She is one of the most important representatives of early Expressionism.
Although numerous artists have been buried in the cemetery in Worpswede, only Paula and Fritz Mackensen of the first generation of the artists' colony are there.
At least on weekends, one need not worry about not finding the grave because it is constantly surrounded by a bunch of people. Otherwise, but also helps a panel southeast of the church, on which the resting place of all major artists are specified with a map.

"What a pity." - With these words, the expressionist painter Paula Modersohn-Becker died on November 20, 1907, at the age of just 31, in Worpswede near Bremen. At the time, hardly anyone understood how important her work was.

She was a pioneer of expressionism and the first artist in the world to have an entire museum dedicated to her: the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907), who died young. The Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum in Bremen has commemorated her since 1927. Her adopted home was the Worpswede artists' colony. There in the provinces - and inspired by many trips to Paris - she developed her trend-setting style.
