In the Grabiński Forest in Iwonicz, on July 24, 1944, a subunit of the Ukrainian SS-Galizien battalion under the German command of Baron Engelstein and his deputy, Ukrainian major, lek. vet. Vladimir Najda, executed with a shot in the back of the head 72 arrested people brought from the prison in Jasło. They were mostly members of the Home Army and Peasant Battalions. The monument was created thanks to the initiative of Aniela Aleksiewicz, Zofia Penar and Władysław Kandefer, who established the Monument Building Committee and completed the work. The consecration was made on July 27, 1947. In 1971, thanks to the efforts of the Reconstruction Committee, chaired by S. Biskup, the monument was renovated.
