Dho Tarap village is one of the highest settlements on earth. Situated at an elevation from 3,900 m to 4,200 m above sea level, it used to be the capital of Dolpo before Gorkhali king Prithivi Narayan Shah annexed it in the 17th century. This remote valley follows Bon culture, and there are eight different monasteries in the valley including a Bon monastery.
