What an Oak! Oh! What a beautiful chapel one could build there!
…was the exclamation that Father Hillaret had, seeing this old and huge oak tree in 1873, during a visit to his parishioners in the village of La Menantonnière.
This exclamation spread through the parish and beyond. The Abbot pursued his idea of building a chapel dedicated to the Holy Family with the agreement of Monsignor Colet, it was built according to the plans of Mr. Clair, departmental architect and was born in 1874.
Inside the Chapel, the white stone altar surmounted by statues of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is in the oak. The Holy table is fixed on the roots which serve as a kneeler for those who communicate.
Outside, long branches covered the sanctuary. Unfortunately, the oak was decapitated by the storm of February 13, 1972.
