Nice view from the lake promenade to Orth Castle - meaning the Seeschloss. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut (built in the 10th century) and was first mentioned in documents in 909 and later in 1053. The castle is also known from the TV series Schlosshotel Orth, which was successful between 1996 and 2004.

The impressive 130-meter-long wooden bridge leads visitors directly to the picturesque Ort Lake Castle, located on a small island in Lake Traunsee. With its remarkable Renaissance arcaded courtyards, the castle attracts numerous tourists year after year who want to discover the history and beauty of this place. Since 1995, the Lake Castle has belonged to the municipality of Gmunden, which has dedicatedly maintained it and preserved its historic splendor.

The history of the castle is as fascinating as it is varied; in 1915, it was transferred from the estate of Johann Orth to the State Forests. Over the centuries, the Ort Castles and the Ort Lordship changed hands several times, resulting in an interesting cultural heritage. This eventful history makes Ort Lake Castle an important part of the region, offering both cultural and architectural delights.

From the Esplanade, the Gmundner Flaniermeile, there are several beautiful views of the lake and the mountains behind. Also culinary delights (coffee house) can be found here. Further, a bit lonelier views of the lake, there is an alternative from the Toscanapark, my personal Gmunden highlight (unfortunately in the meantime without a cafe).
