There were repeated disputes between the old and new towns, so that in 1377 it was decided to unite the two towns. The expression of this union was a joint town hall, exactly on the border between the old and new towns. The fifth stone house was built. Unfortunately, it was almost destroyed in the great fire of 1664. Only the outer walls and a Gothic stepped gable remained. It was rebuilt in a makeshift manner. More extensive renovations took place between 1702 and 1706. In 1929/30 the historic town hall was given its current appearance. During this time an arcade was built, a tower was erected and the town hall hall was redesigned. In 1937 the Korbach Roland was placed in a niche on the north side of the town hall. The Roland figure from 1450, a symbol of municipal jurisdiction and market rights, used to stand on the Old Town market square until, after a dispute with the count's sovereignty at the beginning of the 17th century, it disappeared unnoticed for almost 300 years in a niche in the Kilian portal.
