Weingarten is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Lichtenfels in the Lichtenfels district.
Weingarten was first called "Wingardi" in the traditions of the Fulda monastery in the 9th century, based on a copy in the Codex Eberhardi from the 12th century. The next mention is documented for 1065-1075 in the Domnecrolog from 1285-1287 as an anniversary foundation of the priests Appelin and Wizelin de Wingarten.
The place in the domain of the neighboring Banz monastery had a parish hall in 1801, ten Lastsölden built with houses and barns and four drip houses. There were vineyards on the main slope. The high cent belonged to the Lichtenfels Zentamt of the Bamberg monastery, the village, municipality, fiefdom and bailiwick to the Banz monastery. The Altenbanzer pastor was responsible for the church. [2]
In 1862 Weingarten was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office in Staffelstein. The village of Weingarten and the towns of Schloss Banz, Hausen, Heinach, Neubanz and Voreichen belonged to the rural community.
On July 1, 1972, the district of Staffelstein was dissolved and Weingarten with the municipality of Heinach was incorporated into the city of Lichtenfels and the district of Lichtenfels. The other districts came to the newly founded community Banz.
