The Pfaffenhofen was built in the early 18th century as a farm for the Ilbenstadt monastery and the “summer residence” of the abbot there. Ecclesiastically, the village belonged to the Ilbenstadt monastery, but had a priest with parish rights. The property passed to the Counts of Altleiningen-Westerburg in 1803. In 1928, a barn was converted into a ballroom and after the Second World War, carnivals and theater were held in the rectory. Displaced people and refugees also found accommodation there. The coal court met in the Pfaffenhof on January 2nd until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1921, the property with extensive land holdings was acquired by the municipality of Erbstadt and is now owned by the city of Nidderau.
