Once covered by a meter-thick layer of pumice, the 1,700-year-old tuff tunnels and shafts are now protected under the cantilevered hall construction of the Meurin Roman mine. The original traces of mining by the ancient Romans, large illuminated images, exciting exhibits and a film in the cinema gallery bring the dusty and hard work underground to life again.

In the Roman mine in Meurin you descend into the subterranean working world of Roman miners and soldiers. Flashlights are not needed - modern pumice mining has uncovered the ancient quarry. Large parts of the old mine cover have now disappeared. Easy-to-walk footbridges, ramps and stairs not only lead the visitor through the tunnel system, but also beyond it. So it is probably the only mine that you can see from a bird's eye view.
