    In 1957, the stadium hosted the Generalissimo Cup Final, in the only edition in which Fútbol Club Barcelona and Real Club Deportivo Espanyol, the two great clubs of "Ciudad Condal", have faced each other in the final, disputing a Barcelona derby that ended with Barça victory by 1-0.

    In 1982, it was the scene for two months of rehearsals for the opening ceremony of the '82 World Cup in Spain, which was held at the Camp Nou, where more than 3,000 students from various Salesian schools in Barcelona took part.

      The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium (officially until 2001, Montjuïc Olympic Stadium) is a municipally owned sports venue located on the Montjuic mountain in the Sants-Montjuïc district, in Barcelona, Spain.

      The original stadium was inaugurated on May 20, 1929 by King Alfonso XIII, one day after the opening of the International Exhibition. On the occasion of the 1992 Olympic Games, the stadium was practically completely rebuilt (1985-1989), being reopened 60 years later as the "Olympic stadium", on September 8, 1989, by also King Juan Carlos I.

        Work began on April 5, 1927, with the laying of the first stone. It was inaugurated on May 20, 1929 by King Alfonso XIII, on the occasion of the International Exhibition of Barcelona, where it was the headquarters of its sports section. The opening events included a friendly football match, played between a combination of players from the Barcelona teams and Bolton Wanderers, as well as a friendly rugby match, played between the Spanish and Italian teams.

        During that first year, it hosted several matches of the first edition of the First Division National League Championship (1928-29), with the three Barcelona clubs in the category acting as locals, Fútbol Club Barcelona, Club Deportivo Europa and Real Club Deportivo Espanyol.

        On July 19, 1936, the Popular Olympiad was scheduled to begin in the stadium, being suspended due to the outbreak of the Spanish civil war.
