The house probably owes its name to the town of Hilbeck. Not everyone who later called himself von Hilbeck or de Hilbecke or something similar belongs to the knight-born family. A Gobelinus de Hilbecke is documented for 1260. In the coat of arms, the von Hilbecks had a tournament collar in an undivided coat of arms. At times the family was also referred to as von der Heyde von Hilbeck, in a document from 1357 a Heinrich v. i.e. Heyde gnt v. Hilbeck and his wife Frederunis v. called Vrisendorf. After 1461 this family was probably based in the Kamen area. The von Hilbecks who appeared in the town in the 16th century are named after the name of the town.
