The Caterpillar is one of the largest mining craters in the Ypres Salient.
On June 7, 1917, at 10 past three in the morning, two mines under the German positions at Hill 60 were detonated. The 204.Division lost 687 men that day.
This crater is 79.2 meters in diameter and 15.5 meters deep.
