This vantage point provides a beautiful overview of the Eifel Aqueduct route before crossing the Erft Valley. The pipeline comes from Lessenich via Antweiler through open fields and reaches the "Broicher Bruch" forest near Maria Rast. This high forest lies across the Erft River, directly opposite our location, and contains some very beautiful outcrops of the Roman canal.

The elevation of the mountain slopes on both sides of the Erft River made it impossible for the aqueduct to cross the valley until Rheder. And even there, an aqueduct bridge 550 m long and 5 m high had to be built. No remains of this structure remain on site, although a quite impressive bridge must have stood here. However, its stone was quarried in the Middle Ages to be reused for construction. Source: roemerkanal.de/bauwerk
