The Urlanda double arch bridge was constructed in 1924-26 and was the last of the stone masonry arch bridges in the Norwegian province of Helgeland before steel and concrete were used as construction materials. The stone blocks were quarried south of the bridge and lifted on site. The bridge was built as part of the road between Hemnesberget and Mo i Rana and later became part of the North Norway Road (formerly Highway 50). In the late 1950s, the stone arch bridge was replaced with a wider steel truss bridge located directly downstream of the stone arch bridge. Today's E6 bridge was built in 2004-05 below the steel truss bridge. which was demolished the same year. Urlanda Bridge is the only stone masonry double arch bridge in Northern Norway.
