Payas Castle, Payas Kalesi: the origins of the castle date back to the 13th century, when Genoese crusaders built a first castle. This castle was demolished in 1567 and a new building was constructed under Sultan Selim II by 1571, which can still be seen today. The castle with its eight towers is surrounded by a moat. In the middle of the complex is a small mosque and a barracks building. In the 1930s the castle served as a police station and prison; today it is a museum.
