The Gauchach is for me personally the nicer part of the gorge! Here you often walk very close to the water, sometimes it is even necessary to walk over stones washed by water. Often, the forest gives the impression of a jungle and everything seems a little more and more original.

The Gauchach rises south of Oberbränd and flows into the Wutach above the Wutachmühle. The gorge has remained in a natural state because of the steep slopes and the difficult access.

The gorge has an overwhelming primeval landscape with romantic waterfalls and unspoilt forests. It is an unforgettable experience for every hiker.

The Gauchach Gorge can be nicely combined with the Wutach Gorge and the Engesch Gorge as a 10km circular route (Three Gorges Path).

Similar to the Wutach Gorge, you shouldn't hike there when it rains or shortly after it rains, as many places are very muddy. In some passages it can be dangerous under certain circumstances.

Terrific. Who is an early riser, should go with the sunrise, ideally from the northern entrance of the Gauchach direction Wutachschlucht. Because this is how you always have the sun in front of you and the play of light in the water and the trees becomes an unforgettable trip through one of the most beautiful Grand Canyons in the region. Incidentally, in the Gauchach Gorge, halfway up, you will find the Burgmühle, a small idyllic rest stop.

The path through the Gauchach Gorge is especially not recommended for people with even a slight fear of heights! I myself had no problem with that, but my hiking companion had to go beyond its limits. The path is sometimes very narrow, slippery and muddy, there are no steel "retaining fences" like in the Wutach Gorge. Absolute surefootedness, good physical condition and good shoes are a real MUST here! It becomes particularly problematic when a hiker comes towards you and you have to pass each other. I would classify the section as difficult depending on the weather conditions. Still a real highlight for me and highly recommended for advanced hikers (sticks are helpful !!); you are in a real jungle with a breathtaking view into the depths of the Gauchach!

A beautiful gorge to hike through, with plenty of places for a rest. On the other side of the trail, you can enjoy a meal and a break at the Burgmühle (castle mill). Overall, it's also suitable for families with children. After rain, it can be a bit muddy, making it difficult for small children.

Lots of variety from the confluence with the Wutach to Döggingen: small water cascades, tree trunk bridges that seem adventurous at first glance (but they are absolutely stable), rocky outcropped terrace paths and much more. In between the castle mill as a hiking restaurant. Overall very, very nice!

Wonderful gorge, a little smaller than the Wutach gorge and therefore not as crowded as this one. I like the Gauchach Gorge better than the Wutach Gorge.
Both gorges can be easily combined with each other and, if you are fit enough, can be done in one day.

The Gauchach meanders down the valley towards the Wutach over sintered terraces. Past mills and towering rock walls, it is part of a hiking idyll that promises peace and quiet in the solitude of the shady gorge. Only driftwood, which lies warningly on the banks, shows that it gets rougher here when storms turn the sedate babbling brook into a raging body of water. Until then, you can enjoy the peace that the murmuring water radiates on its way.

The Gauchach has its source south of Oberbränd, flows near Dittishausen and past Döggingen and flows into the Wutach above the Wutachmühle. The actual "Gauchachschlucht" begins below Döggingen, where the stream has eaten its way deep into the hard shell limestone. The gorge has remained in a near-natural state because of the steep slopes and difficult access. The slopes are mostly covered by ravine forests. The course of the stream is also largely natural, even if it still bears the traces of use in places. The Gauchach used to power three mills: the Guggenmühle, the Lochmühle and the bright red Burgmühle, whose future as a Friends of Nature house is currently uncertain. The narrower area of the Gauchach Gorge is designated as a nature reserve.
