The ascent from Norheim is usually quite leisurely, a short passage is steep, stony and demanding. Partial steps are formed. If you start the shortest route from the main road, there is another passage over former vineyards, known to be steep and with broken stone walls.

Climbing can be a bit difficult as the ground is rugged and there are no railings. May be too demanding for people with walking difficulties etc. Ascent and descent only in daylight, as slipping can be very painful.

If you follow the "Vital tour Rotenfels" in the intended direction, this is the descent from Rotenfels. On this route it is absolutely recommended as such at the beginning, instead of having to climb 18km in the legs.

I can only recommend the various hiking trails around Rotenfels. You mostly walk on narrow forest paths, but they are very well maintained and signposted.

The tour begins in Traisen... you gain elevation quite quickly on a fairly rocky path... there are some steps, but they're not evenly spaced. Other sections have pleasantly wide paths... There are repeated beautiful views of the Rotenfels, the Ebernburg Castle opposite, and the wide valley below. Green lizards make themselves known by rustling along the path.
