At the beginning of the 20th century, the water tower was used to generate pressure for a brewery and later also for a villa colony. But it was shut down in the 1920s. After being used as an anti-aircraft gun station in World War II and as a radio station in the GDR, it is now home to a bar.

The Hohenschönhausen water tower is a listed water tower in the Berlin district of Alt-Hohenschönhausen.

The water tower has shaped the area of the Obersee since 1900. This is located on the Lindwerderberg, at 61 m above sea level. NN the highest natural elevation of Alt-Hohenschönhausen. The water tower served to supply the brewery and later the villa colony at Obersee and Orankesee.

On the brick tower shaft sat an iron container in a design developed by the engineer Otto Intze, of which an estimated 500 copies existed in the German Empire. The construction work was carried out by Merten & Knauff. With the Greater Berlin Act, the place was incorporated into Berlin and connected to the water supply of Lichtenberg.

In 1922, when the Löwenbrauerei was taken over by the Böhmisches Brauhaus AG brewery and the brewing operations stopped, the tower and the associated waterworks were shut down. A short time later, the demand arose to demolish the tower or at least remove the container, as this would disturb the landscape - it was finally dismantled and scrapped in 1933.

During the Second World War, the tower shaft served as an anti-aircraft position. In the times of the GDR it was used as a radio station for the Society for Sport and Technology. In 2004 the tower, which had been vacant since the political change, found a new owner. Despite its structural changes, it is a listed building.

Today there is an apartment and a bar in the water tower. The bar occupies the lower floors and has been open since July 2007. The roof of the former pumping station was converted into a lake terrace, which is used for gastronomy in summer. At night, the ledge at the top of the tower is illuminated with a green light ring indicating that the bar is open.
