Parish that belongs to the old town of Sant Esteve, also called Centelles and originally linked to the parish of Sant Martí de Congost or Aiguafreda, but later acquired the functions of a parish that is still preserved. It has been known since 898 as the "Villa Danielis", which derives from the place name of Valldaneu. The church, however, is mentioned until 1007 in Odesind's will, which was sworn on the altar of St. Peter which belonged to the county of Osona. According to the lists of the parishes of the diocese, we can consider that it functioned as a parish already in the first half of the 11th century with the name "Vilar Daniel" and later "Valdaniel". Around 1640 the Romanesque building was almost completely rebuilt and later other renovations were made as evidenced by the date of the main iron gate, "March 17, 1830". Currently the population center is remote and has lost the real character of the parish.
