Contrary to popular belief, the Creu de Rupit toponym refers to a crossroads. It is an old word, similar to others in the Maresme area: Collsacreu, Creueta, Creu de Canet. All of them refer to points where paths cross.

Geographically, the Creu de Rupit is the hill that separates the basins of the Sobirans and Canyamars streams, an important crossroads that leads to different places in the Vallès and the Maresme. Furthermore, at this point of Rupit there has always been a cross; It is an emblematic element that constitutes a landmark within the landscape of the Rupit environment.

The landscape up here combines open spaces, such as the Rupit plain, with spaces with dense forests of pines, holm oaks and cork oaks.

Almost everyone who passes by here stops, either to take a photo or drink some liquid, also an ideal place to meet people.
The current cross was built around the 1980s, commissioned by the Sagalés Corrons family. The original cross was made of pine wood and was burned by a blast. Although its functionality is not known, it is likely that it served as a sign of a crossroads. In this sense, this cross separates the municipal terms of Dosrius and Arenys de Munt, marking four remarkable paths: the one of Canyamars, the one of Corredor, the one of Arenys de Munt and the one of Mataró, by the source of the Mal Pas. However, it cannot be ruled out that it also had a religious meaning. According to oral sources, there had always been a cross in this enclave, although no one remembers that processions, blessings or religious acts were held there.
