The first documentary evidence of the town of Bischweier dates back to 1243. At that time the town was called “Bischoffweyer” and was probably a hamlet of the Bishop of Speyer. The St. Anne's Chapel is also said to have been built at this time. The settlement probably came under the rule of the Count von Eberstein through church bailiwick.
