At the crossroads, where the grassy area between the canal and the lake widened towards the end, we can turn left into the forest and luckily have done so. At the moment, the forest has swallowed us and we are on an initially sloping, narrow, but very well drawn and to running way through the thicket. This year it was very dry and we were able to walk very well and were not bothered, but in the wet it may be slippery and especially very mucky, protection is then certainly in demand. We meander through the forest and then suddenly we are in the water. No, not quite, but close to it. The path ends right at the confluence of the Flemhuder See and the Kiel Canal. We did not get any maneuvers, unfortunately, but those who are in the mood can pause for a while, because right in front of their noses they have another escape point, that is, ships are passing each other, which would otherwise be too big for the canal to pass. We walk a bit through the forest and are soon at the lock Strohbrück, which once connected the Eider with the Kiel Canal. In summer, this is a quaint piece of wilderness.

We've been here in summer and winter, on foot and by bike... it was always different, but always beautiful.

As of 2020:

The area and the paths leading there are now completely fenced off. This is likely due to the expansion of the Kiel Canal.

Parallel to the developed supply road, a hidden forest singletrack trail runs along the shore of Lake Flemhude. The rooty and winding trail is easily accessible even in summer. It has several dog bathing areas and ends at the bathing area where the lake meets the Kiel Canal.

An absolutely worthwhile section.
