Ballinskelligs Castle
My decision to pack the bulky rubber boots turned out to be spot on here.
The ruins of the castle are on an island at high tide and can be reached on foot at low tide, but there are always more or less large tideways that would have been a real obstacle without boots.
However, it was really fun to discover this ruin extensively from all perspectives and to trudge carefree through the muddy sand.
It was built by McCarthy Mór in the 16th century to protect the bay from pirates, while also being used to collect tolls from incoming merchant ships.
