The unified municipality of Huy is located in the district of Harz in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt north of the district town of Halberstadt between the Huy ridge and the Großer Bruch valley.
Our region entered written history at the time of Charlemagne's Saxon wars at the end of the 8th century, so in 804 Halberstadt became the diocese pushed furthest to the east as part of the missionary work of the Saxons.
After the end of World War II, our region was initially occupied by American and British troops. From July 1945, our region was in Soviet-occupied territory and then for about 40 years in the GDR on the border with the Federal Republic.
Last but not least, the demographic development in Saxony-Anhalt led to several regional reforms and finally to municipal reform and the formation of the unified municipality of Huy from previously 11 independent village communities and several districts with today almost 8,000 inhabitants on an area of approx. 167 km².
